AVX Tantalum division lands DSCC approval for avionics power supply devices

July 15, 2009

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C., 15 July 2009. AVX Corp. received Defense Supply Center Columbus (DSCC) approval for its TBW Series fused tantalum chip for avionics power supplies.

Providing low equivalent series resistance (ESR), the TBW tantalum fuse is ideal for safe low impedance power supply filtering, company officials say. The TBW Series features a fast-acting and failsafe internal fuse element, making it well suited to mission-critical applications where fail-safe operation is needed, such as avionics power supplies and power distribution, banked applications for bulk decoupling and backplane.

"The TBW Series offers the lowest ESR value available for a fused tantalum in a case size that is less than half that of the competition," says Dan Lane, marketing manager, Tantalum Products at AVX.

The technology also enables the capacitor to be supplied with full Weibull grade reliability including level B and C.

Samples are available in three military and aerospace power supply filter ratings – 47uF/15v (TBWD476K015CBSB0000); 15uF/35v (TBWD156K035CBSB0000); and 4.7uF/50v (TBWD475K050CBSB0000).

Other ratings are available with as long as a 10 week lead time on request. Parts are available with tin-lead termination as standard. Pricing is set at competitive market levels.
