Avionics test system from DFW Instrument has battery-power feature for business aviation applications

ATLANTA, 22 Oct. 2010. The Zsay-3 Aircraft Universal Static Adapter from DFW Instrument Corp. in Carrollton, Texas, is designed to help speed up FAR 91.411 static leak checks. The system has a battery power backup feature with eight to 10 hours of continuous battery run time.

 

The system was originally a custom design for unmanned systems applications for the U.S. military, says T.C. Beckett, Jr., sales director at DFW. Since then "we've turned it into a standard product that does quite well for us."

 

The Static Adapter provides a simple method to attach any Pitot/Standard Test set to the static system without breaking lines. There is no residue, or marring of the skin associated with other methods of sealing the static port, according to the DFW data sheet. The adapter has a center cup that covers the static port and three articulating legs with suction cups to hold the adaptor in place, utilizing the strong vacuum system, which secures to the fuselage while testing.

 

The battery pack option is used via an internally mounted automatic battery and switching system within the standard ZSAY panel. The battery pack mounts into an existing power supply unit and recharges via 115VAC power. An aural alarm -- 105 decibels -- will sound when battery voltage is below safe conditions.

 

The Universal Adapter is designed to fit most general aviation and military aircraft fuselage static ports. Its smart power supply can be sued with variable input voltages.
