Euroatlantic Airways chooses Fokker Services to install iPad-based electronic flight bag on Boeing jetliner fleet

HOOFDDORP, The Netherlands, 18 May 2012. Euroatlantic Airways based in Sintra, Portugal, is choosing Fokker Services in Hoofddorp, The Netherlands, to install the Apple iPad-based electronic flight bag (EFB), in Euroatlantic's fleet of Boeing passenger jets.

The EFB solution for iPad is EASA certified (Class 2 Type B), requires no expensive ICT infrastructure, and has a power reserve of as long as eight hours, Fokker officials say. Aircraft can be converted with limited downtime.

"The main reason for Euroatlantic to chose the EFB solution for iPad is cost savings," explains Tomaz Metello chief executive officer of Euroatlantic Airways. "Once the installation is accomplished, the time-consuming and costly distribution of paper updates on navigation charts and aircraft manuals will be history."

The iPad EFB can store, catalog, and bookmark flight information important to aircraft pilots during flight operations. They can study flight plans prior to boarding, and receive one-click updates automatically to replace outdated content via the internet.

Euroatlantic Airways is a Portuguese non-scheduled international airline that operates to the U.S. and Canada, Caribbean, Central and South America, Africa, the Middle East, Pacific, Australia, and Oceania. The airline operates the 737, 767, and 777. Fokker Services supplies integrated maintenance services.
