Industry and government organizations partner to tackle air traffic control challenges

While you are watching this, I’m walking the floor at the 57th annual Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA) Conference & Expo in National Harbor, Md. It’s a busy time in the air traffic management community, with several ambitious projects underway.

Discussions at the air traffic control (ATC) and air traffic management (ATM) event center on the Next Generation Air Transportation System or NextGen, which will transform the National Airspace System (NAS) from its current ground-based system to an advanced, satellite-based system.

The safe and secure integration of remotely piloted aircraft systems (RPAS), also known as unmanned aerial systems (UAS) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), into the NAS was also a topic of great import and interest.
